De-Icing

De-Icing is the most common means of “removing” ice from a customer’s facility or residence, and is often incorporated into plowing operations. Listed below are some choices used in de-icing.

Calcium Chloride - releases heat as they dissolve, which helps melt ice quickly.
Rock Salt – is the most commonly used agents for de-icing. For decades, rock salt was the de-icer of choice. Supply was plentiful and the product was effective at moderate cold temperatures. Salt was also a very inexpensive product to secure.
Salt/Sand Mix – this is an adequate way to control sliding on ice by vehicle traffic. The sand acts as traction while the salt melts the ice.
